Don’t know if this is a common issue with the 14Pro/Max have mine since lunch day, sometimes the screen do not respond with touch to wake i need to press the power button to wake the screen, this is extremely annoying, do not happen frequently but happens sometimes anybody having the same issue, this could be iOS related or hardware?

Is your screen clean? Have you attached a screen protector; if so, is it clean. Some of the cheaper screen protectors are not sufficiently oleophobic (oil repelling). A build-up of finger grease can impair the touch sensitivity of the screen. Just a thought. You might try cleaning your screen with a mildly alcohol-based wet wipe to see if that helps.
Did you force restarted your phone and checked if the problem solved?
I know it sounds stupid, but have you tried using a different finger, or asked someone else to tap the screen to see it if works. Insistently?
Yes clean screen with high quality screen protector... never happened with any iphone I had before just happens with this 14 Pro Max
If my screen seems unresponsive, sometimes licking the end of my finger seems to help. If this doesn't work for you and no one provides a solution in this forum, I suggest to at you contact Apple Support. If this was a software (iOS) problem, it would affect everyone.

Yes last time when happened (was taking pictures on a new year event) told my wife to tap , I tough was my finger the issue, and not worked too needed to press the power button for the screen to wake up.... not sure if this is an IOS issue or hardware
Yes already did a force restart, weird is that this issue do not happen all the time just sometimes but is extremly annoying
