Monterey 12.6.2 safari doesn't work anymore

I have a late model 2013 Mac. 3.5GHz, 6-core xeon E5, 64GB 1866 MHz DDR3, and AMD FirePro D700 6GB. I just upgraded to Monterey 12.6.2 from 12.6.0 and now Safari doesn't work. It's greyed out with a line through it. Updates says it's up to date. Any ideas why Safari all of a sudden isn't compatible with the Mac?

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes.

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

To find out if it's system wide or user specific, try this...

Open System Preferences>Users & Groups, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.

yes, I do. I actually don't use Safari much. I usually use Chrome. And honestly it's not the browser I'm worried about. I'm concerned that this strange error is a symptom of something going wrong that might cause later issues. As in there is something corrupt there and this Safari issue is the warning sign of something to come.

thanks for your help. much appreciated.
