this is not your primary icloud account

On my old iMac ios Yosemite and on my iPad I cannot sign in to iCloud but can use my apple ID everywhere else successfully--the message on my Mac has been there for 8 or so years and never resolved. I've heard to delete iCloud and then reinstall, but I don't want to lose what's on there and I really don't want to change my Apple password--just want to find out what my primary account is or if that message itself is a glitch.

iMac, OS X 10.10

Hi waggingthetail,

If you are receiving a message on your Mac that you are not using the primary account, there are a couple places you can check for your Apple ID:

    1. Check System Preferences > iCloud Change iCloud account information
    2. Check your Apple ID in FaceTime Sign in to or out of FaceTime
    3. Check your Apple ID in Messages Set up to send text messages

If you are unable to pinpoint why you are getting this message, you may want to make a copy of your data from iCloud Archive or make copies of the information you store in iCloud and Contact Apple Support or use this Get Support link for assistance.

Take care.
