My Apple Watch continues to “ding” and show the charging icon when I add my iPhone to the charging pad (2 in 1). What is the problem? I wanted to charge both at the same time and it show phone charging but watch continues to ding.

Sounds like an issue with the charger. I've found that third-party chargers for Apple Watches don't always work very well. I have a combined wireless charger for an iPhone and Watch. It worked fine until I got the Watch 7. At that point, the watch part didn't seem to work properly anymore. Meanwhile, my charging cable from my original (Series 0) Watch still works just fine.

At a guess, when you have both the phone and the watch on the charger, it isn't supplying power continuously to both devices, perhaps because it just can't. So, the current to the watch is starting and stopping, causing the dining. Once you take the phone off, there's enough power for the watch.

See if Verizon will take it back.

Do you notice this behavior when you test your Apple Watch with the charger that came with it or a different charger? If not, then the issue is likely related to the charger itself. There are some additional troubleshooting steps you can take to isolate the issue here: If your Apple Watch won't charge or it won't turn on.

Get help if your Apple Watch won't charge

If your Apple Watch won't charge, or a message on your watch says that charging with this accessory isn't supported, try these tips: 

• Make sure that you're using the Apple Magnetic Charging Cable or USB-C Magnetic Fast Charging Cable that came with your Apple Watch.

• Make sure that you plug the Apple Magnetic Charging Cable or USB-C Magnetic Fast Charging Cable all the way into the USB Power Adapter, then make sure that you plug the adapter all the way into a power outlet.

• If you use a third-party charging stand, use the charging cable that shipped in the box with your Apple Watch.

• Completely remove any plastic wrap from both sides of the charger. 

• Make sure that the back of your Apple Watch and the magnetic charger are clean.

• Reposition the back of your Apple Watch on the charger. When the charger's magnets align correctly with your Apple Watch, a green or yellow lightning bolt  should appear on the watch face.*

• Try a different Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Cable or USB-C Magnetic Fast Charging Cable, and a different USB Power Adapter. If your Apple Watch is out of power, you might need to wait a few minutes for the lightning bolt  to appear after you start charging your device. 

• If your Apple Watch still won't charge, force it to restart. Press and hold both the side button and Digital Crown for at least 10 seconds, or until the Apple logo appears.

You can get braided cord covers from Amazon (and probably lots of other places as well). They really cut down on the kitten damage. My kitten chewed through a cord that wasn't properly fastened down that turned out to be for the FIOS internet. Cost me $100 to have it fixed. Also, two watch cables, a phone cable, a smart light cable, the cable to a weather NetAtmo weather station and the one to a Fire TV. He turned out to be a very expensive rescue.
