Japanese iPhone 14 Pro Purchasing Questions

Hi Apple community!

I'll be going to Japan in February and I'm looking to buy an iPhone 14 Pro while there.

However, I've read that Apple does not take cash payments of the full price of an iPhone in stores, is this correct? If it is - I also noticed that Apple stores accept SUICA cards, would it be possible then for me to fill up my card with the value of the iPhone and pay using SUICA on Apple Pay?

Also - I searched hard but couldn't find a definitive answer: Will a Japanese iPhone 14 Pro work in Brazil? I see Japan has a different model than the one sold in Brazil.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

  1. Not sure what the legal requirements are in Japan, but sounds unlikely they don't take cash. All Apple Stores I have ever been to, take cash for all purchases.
  2. Probably. If the SUICA card can be used with Apple Pay and can allow for charges on it for the full price of the iPhone, this should work.
  3. If it's unlocked, i.e not tied to any Japanese carrier it should work normally in Brazil.

Do note, Warranty will only be valid in Japan, and any restrictions imposed by the Japanese government on devices will still apply. Things like being unable to turn off the Camera shutter sound for instance as this is required by law in Japan. You will also need to take the device back to Japan if any warranty service or repair is required. Apple Stores in Brazil will not repair or replace a Japanese iPhone. Apple does not take international shipments for service or repair. It will need to be manually brought into an Apple Store or service provider Japan.

Thanks Phil! Just one more question - when you say that Apple Stores will not replace nor repair the phone, that only means in the sense of warranty right? If I need any repair, if I pay for repair it should be handled right?

They can deny repairs or replacement as they would not have a model that is exactly the same as the Japanese one. So no, you cannot count on Brazilian Apple Stores agreeing to repair or replace the device. They are free to deny service as per Apple's own terms.

Also, will Apple Care upgrades not expand the repair rule globally?

No. Apple Care+ is also region specific and any repair or replacement must happen in the country of purchase, except for the Loss and Theft variant which can be applied in any country where Apple has official presence for replacement of the lost or stolen device.

Apple Care+ is not available in Brazil. Click here ➡️ Legal - AppleCare+ - Apple
