Backlight, but no display.

15", 2017 MacBook Pro. Backlight, but no display. When connected to external monitor, it will show the "Reset Password" page on ext. monitor, but will not show the regular start up page.

I'm stumped. Any ideas? I sincerely appreciate your time.

Usually there is an option to "Exit" that screen where it mentions "Reset Password" which may allow the laptop to continue logging in or maybe even reboot. If not, then power off the laptop and after powering on the laptop and perform a PRAM Reset immediately after hearing the startup chime (hold the PRAM Reset for at least two chimes). The laptop should boot to the login screen as usual.

You will need to have the laptop repaired to fix the issue with the laptop's built-in display.
