Cannot turn off iCloud.

Hello.

This is my Machine Data:

I have tried multiple times to Turn iCloud OFF, including from from Safe Mode. However, each attempt (I think 5; I am losing track) has been unsuccessful.

1.) In one of the earlier attempts I 'selected' to have iCloud save (that is download) what storage was there to my MBP. That hung-up, showed no movement in the progress bar &, thus, I quit that & next elected to skip that process & "lose" that data. No thing was achieved. There is no "iCloud Archive Folder" in my Home folder.

2.) In those earlier attempts, I had, also, 'turned-off' iCloud Web Access. I did not understand what that meant & have since — for the time being UNTIL iCloud is Turned OFF COMPLETELY — turned iCloud Web Access back on if to aid in supplying useful information to this Apple Communities Query. The amount of storage used is shown below at #4.

3.) FINDER alleges iCloud is NOT Turned ON.

4.) iCloud on the Web shows this:

There is NOTHING for iCloud on the Web under or listed in Contacts, Notes, Photos, &c. — nor in iCloud Drive. (PLEASE NOTE: For some of those items a message stating "iCloud e-mail needs to be turned on", which, apparently is not & which is consistent with the fact that I had believed my self to have NEVER turned on iCloud . . .)

HOWEVER — as the series of PNG files below attests, iCloud is "ON" on my MBP . . . & as noted above, I would like it to be turned off, completely, & securely

5.) This is evidence of my third (3rd) attempt to turn off iCloud OFF in Normal Mode:

5.) I logged out & logged in & iCloud was BACK ON, again.

6.) Next I attempted to turn iCloud off in Safe Mode:

7.) Then, subsequent to that I logged back in in Normal Mode & iCloud was back ON.

PLEASE NOTE: While I log-in to Apple ID — the System Settings window items in the left side-bar flickered on/off, or wavered, — & as did, repeatedly, manifest for moments alone shows the initial prompting from Apple to "Update Apple ID Settings", which was the communication that initiated this imbroglio.

I am thoroughly stymied!

Perhaps, I have some other setting turned OFF, or ON, which prevents iCloud from successfully turning OFF in System Settings. Again, however, iCloud it is NOT ON under Finder (as indicated above #3), similarly, on the web iCloud indicated that I have nothing there — (as indicated above #4).

If any person can help me to extricate my MBP (& my Self) from this labyrinth of duplicitous & contrarian data — & the System Settings (mis?) representation such that I may TURN iCloud OFF would be very much appreciated.

Thank you for reading, sincerely. (I apologise that some PNG files are more illegible than others. I find it difficult to determine how to size them down so that they are not FULL-SCREEN images, which render the post more enormous than my verbiage already does.)

TO ANY PLAUSIBLE RESPONDENT:

I-CLOUD WAS "TICKED" OFF (de-selected) ON ALL ITEMISATIONS, INCLUDING HAVING I-CLOUD ON as per what the image (now absent) at #5 improperly revealed.

#5 (the second one) displayed that after shut-down & logging back in iCloud resumed — IN SYSTEM PREFERENCES — to be ON, again.

The next png images listed for the safe mode process were merely a repeat that iCloud could NOT BE TURNED OFF in System Settings.

Presuming I cannot show that window iCloud is ON, presently you will please trust that it is.

PLEASE NOTE:

When I log in to Apple ID: I DO NOT merge my MBP with iCloud to correspond or sync (or whatever it seeks to do with) the data. I select "Don't Merge". & the same when it requests that "Find-My-Mac" be activated, I, again, refuse & press the decline button.

Then I arrive at Apple ID, click on iCloud, & find it still turned ON in System Settings, — though Finder under iCloud Drive indicates it is waiting for me to TURN IT ON (that image remains above) — while on the web at iCloud there is no data stored, save 891.3 KB of who knows what.

My request for help remains, unless this is too befuddled a post to render sense to the issue.

  • I never chose to turn on iCloud.
  • Finder indicates it is NOT activated.
  • iCloud on the web has no data stored.
  • BUT SYSTEM SETTINGS HAS I-CLOUD ON & ACTIVATED FOR VARIOUS APPS, &c.

I am still seeking any kind reply to help solve the issue.

Thank you, again.

Hello, muguy.

Thank you for your reply, but do please understand I have turned iCloud off in System Settings (multiple times) & it refuses to remain off — as every time I check it to verify it is OFF — it is not, but is both ON, again, & has a number of various items (which I did never select) activated to sync/communicate with iCloud.

OF GREAT IMPORTANCE: This only initiated, perhaps, yesterday, or the day prior, because this NOTICE appeared:

in System Settings. Which then upon signing IN & checking to find out what ID Settings needed "updating" I discovered that iCloud was turned ON (though could find no "issue" to which the NOTICE was seemed to be related) — & through repeated attempts in Safe Mode, & otherwise, to turn off iCloud in System Settings I CANNOT GET SYSTEM SETTINGS to leave iCloud turned OFF.

That is the issue.

So, to point:

turn off whatever you would like.

I am disabled from turning off whatever I would like, hence, my post.

Kindly, yrs.
