Hi David,

It should be fine to delete the old Music folder within your old iTunes media folder if you've consolidated the media into Music's Media folder. See Managing your Mac media libraries - Apple Community for some more thoughts on tidying up a migrated iTunes library.

Hey David Dawson3,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you are consolidating your files as mentioned in Change where your music files are stored on Mac. Right?

Did you copy or move your files? If moved, you may see the item in Music but the actual file is in another location. The following sections of that article can help explain.

"Add files to your library but not to your Music folder

When you add an item already on your computer to your library, Music places a copy of the file in your Music folder. The original file remains in its current location.

You can change this setting so that files are added to your library without being added to the Music folder. You might want to do this, for example, if you prefer to store files on an external disk but still want to view them in Music.

  1. In the Music app on your Mac, choose Music > Settings, then click Files.
  2. Deselect the checkbox next to “Copy files to Music Media folder when adding to library.”

From now on, when you drag a file to your library, the item appears in Music, but the actual file isn’t copied or moved.

Tip: You can temporarily reverse this setting by holding down the Option key while you drag files to the Music window.

Locate your Music files

  1. In the Music app  on your Mac, click Songs in the sidebar.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Find out where a file is stored: Select the item, then choose Song > Info.
    • The path to the file is shown at the bottom of the File pane (next to location).
    • Show the file in the Finder: Select the item, then choose File > Show in Finder.
    • If you don’t see Show in Finder, the file may be in your music library and not on your computer."

Take care.

So far, no one has addressed directly what I had hoped would be a simple question. I'll try to be more clear. On my new iMac 24", I consolidated all my music files using Ventura. The consolidation produced a Music/Music/Media folder that appears to contain all my music. There also is a Music/iTunes folder that has previous iTunes libraries and an iTunes Music /Music folder that also appears to contain all of my music.

My question is whether I can delete the Music/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/Music folder without causing a problem. It would save me 12 GB of storage. Thanks!

Hope that's more clear.
