Is it necessary to have a Seagate Back up plus in case my MacBook Air breaks down?

While I wouldn't necessarily recommend a Seagate drive, you should use Time Machine, the built-in backup feature of your Mac, to automatically back up your personal data, including apps, music, photos, email, and documents. Having a backup allows you to restore your Mac from a Time Machine backup if you ever delete your files or can't access them: Back up your Mac with Time Machine - Apple Support.

I'd recommend you use a Crucial X8 Portable SSD - Crucial. I like using solid-state drives (SSDs) for Time Machine backups since they are able to complete the backups much quicker, and they're generally more reliable.
