iPad & CarPlay

This is a weird one. I have an iPad Air 3 iOS 16.1.1. I spend a LOT of time in my car, not just driving, I work out of it often. When I connect my iPad via usb and hit the media button the image of an audiobook that I had on something years ago is on the screen until I start watching a video. When I am finished, the AB shows up again. The most annoying part- when I connect my iPad to my iPhone hotspot to play a game, the audiobook starts playing with the game soundtrack.

I have not downloaded the AB in several years and it has never been on either my iPhone or iPad. I can’t seem to delete the Books or Audiobooks category from the iPad in iTunes.

Please Help!

Hello MamboMedic,

We'd advise that you start off by restarting (Restart your iPad - Apple Support) and updating (Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support) the iPad. When that is completed, test the issue, both on and off a Wi-Fi network. If you search for the name of that book in on your iPad (Use Search on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support), does it show up?

FYI: You are NOT using CarPlay with your ipad. CarPlay is NOT a feature of the ipad.

When you plug it into the head unit via USB and it automatically begins playback, that’s because it is responding to the play command from the head unit in the car. That’s a feature of the head unit, not the iPad.

Consult the owners manual to see if there is a way to change that.

Hey there MamboMedic,

Your vehicle may have an option within its infotainment setting that causes music or audiobooks to play automatically upon connection. You may want to check their user guide for any options.

The ipad is NOT “auto playing” anything. It is responding to a command from the head unit in the car to begin playback.

Sorry for delay. Now when iPad connected to Wi-Fi it starts playing a different audiobook that I purchased years ago and has never been on this device. If I sign out of my Apple ID then I’m good but then have to re-login again.

is there a way to prevent any apps automatically playing when connected to CarPlay with Wi-Fi connected?

Yes, I mistakenly called it car play. How do I prevent the iPad from auto playing anything? It seems to be an Apple iOS issue because when I am NOT signed into my Apple account, the device does not auto play anything. This is what I want. Other usb devices that are plugged in also do not auto play anything.
