Logitech Circle View No Response

Having cameras setup for security reasons and not being able to see them is extremely frustrating and can be costly.

The only fix suggested is to reboot the cameras... too bad they are remote.

How do you unstuck these without physically pull the plugs?

Huge flaw Apple HomeKit...

I had the same problem, and tried all of the solutions I could find including dedicated 2.4Ghz SSID, and more access points closer to the cameras.

The thing that fixed it was hard wiring the Apple TV (only Home Hub) via ethernet to the router.

It has been rock solid for weeks now, and has not dropped out once.

I have posted several times before and have spent countless days, weeks and months trying to keep the Logitech Circle View cameras working. As stated before I have the simplest connection. Camera's are close to the router, FIOS Internet, have tried all the tricks mentioned here. However the conclusion you will also come to is the Logitech Circle View Cameras will not reliably stay online. Shame on Apple and Logitech for promoting this as an official solution. There is clearly something going on between the Logitech Camera and Apple HomeKit that doesn't work and I have not seen either company making an effort to fix it.

My biggest observation has been that the Logitech cameras will stay online more consistently if you set them to not record to the cloud. But this defeats the purpose for most as it did for me. And for me this only meant a few weeks vs a few hours.

My final solution was to purchase a different brand camera. I purchased a Aqara 2K Indoor Security Camera E1. The camera is about $60. Although you have to install Aqara's app to get most of the advance features like panning around the room. I have had this camera for 5 months, connected on the same network as the Logitech. The Logitech is almost always offline while the Aqara is not. Even if there is a rare power failure or my hub or router reboots, the Aqara reconnects in minutes without any action from my side. What we would all expect.

I have given up on the Logitech Circle View and recommend everyone else here does the same. I haven't seen any action from Logitech or Apple to fix the issues. I am not recommending Aqara but hope to save you all the time I wasted trying to get the Logitech products to work. Look elsewhere in my opinion.

I am going to provide my input in case it helps anyone who may be in my situation. I am not an IT expert. I have two Circle View cameras and a doorbell that is hardwired. The doorbell has not caused me any problems. I used to have an old 2015 Apple router unit. When I first installed these cameras and doorbell two years ago, everything worked flawlessly through the home kit app. Recordings were never missed. Nothing ever went offline. Then I bought a brand new Orbi Mesh system (RBRE960) with the router and two satellites. We were starting to get a lot of connected devices and I thought it would be helpful. That's when these cameras stopped being awesome.

They would constantly go offline and recordings were random and rare with any motion. I spent hours and hours researching the problem and ultimately, I gave up. This week, I had tech support at my home for other issues and I brought up my problems. He asked me where my router and satellites were I showed him. He said I think they are too close together and they are confusing your devices. So, at his advice, I disconnected both satellites and ran just the Orbi router for the day/night. The Circle View cameras worked flawlessly. They did not go offline and they recorded all motions as directed. I was surprised that one Orbi router by itself covered full bars in my entire 2,600 SF home except for one room. I set up both satellites, one in that room and another in the garage, all of them pretty far apart. And so far the cameras are working flawlessly.

If you have a mesh WiFi system and your Circle View cameras are not working as they should, consider disconnecting your satellites and testing them with just your router, and if it works, try setting up your satellites as far apart as possible in your home. I would say mine are probably 60-70 feet apart, with one in the basement and the other in the garage, and the router in my main living room under my TV.

OK, I have resolved this issue in my own setup. I have 4 cameras and they have all, at various times, been very problematic. However, they are now completely stable. I have a Unifi Dream machine as my main router and network consisting of a Ubiquiti US-24-250W Main Switch and Unifi UAP-AC-Lite combined with fixed ethernet ports in my house. I have a couple of small Ubiquitie USW-Flex PoE switches dotted around as well.

In order to get stability I did 2 things:

  1. I assigned a fixed IP address to each camera
  2. I tethered each camera to a specific wireless access point

Since I did that the cameras are completely stable and have no issues in dropping off or becoming unresponsive.

After that I toyed about with looking at how I could connect using ethernet PoE for 2 of the cameras. I purchased this splitter: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B073P7J1KR?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

Plug the RJ45 cable into a PoE switch or ethernet port if you have a main PoE switch and connect the USB. I now have 2 of my cameras working via ethernet rather than wifi. Very pleased with them now!

Logitech insists you have an “adequate power supply” and implies the bigger the better. However a 24 volt transformer may output a voltage greater than 26 volts. A high voltage is as much of a problem for the circle view as low voltage. Logitech would not tell me what the upper limit is other than “26 was too high.” Your household voltage may vary throughout the day depending on load. The doorbell voltage will vary with it, as it is unregulated. I switched to a Health/Zenth transformer with multiple taps and selected the 18 volt output. the Circle View is working much better with the lower voltage.

My Circle view stopped working after the power company replaced the transformer feeding my house and my house voltage is slightly higher.

Just an update from my side. As previously stated I have the most basic setup. 1 Circle View, ASUS Router, FIOS, no satellites and Apple TV 4K hardwired to Router as the hub. Logitech replaced my Circle View under warranty and said keep the old one. So now I have two that are constantly going offline, but still show connected to the router. The only way to get them back is to remove them from HOME and add them again.

However I have now noticed since I have two. If I set either one to record to Apple iCloud that camera goes offline as quick as 30 minutes but sometimes as long as 1-2 days later.

I have now set both to stream only and they have been connected for weeks with no interruptions.

As Jekyll previously stated, I am also suspecting its HomeKit software and particularly the secure video recording. Or at least that seems to aggravate my simple setup. if I have even one recording, one or both cameras may go offline. What a disaster between these two respected companies.

I saw a post on this thread one day. The person suggested connecting the CircleView camera to a remote smart surge protector. That way when it drops offline, you can cycle the surge protector in HomeKit instead of unplugging the camera, waiting 30 seconds, then plugging it back in again. I did that, and I don’t know why, but it improved the performance of the CircleView camera. It very seldom drops offline since then. The smart surge protector I use is one I bought for my Christmas decorations. It’s a Meross with three powered outlets. My second revelation was that the presence of non-Apple hubs in your house and on your WiFi network will interfere with a CircleView. Once I removed the Arlo hub and cameras I had in my system, everything including the CircleView started working better.

Here’s what I found ..

Background.

I’ve 3 x Logitech Circle View cameras and for two years they would regularly go off-line. My clunky solution was to install smart switches that power cycle the cameras every six hours. Even then, one or cameras would be off-line. A very unsatisfactory situation. I looked for something better.

Solution

In my regular online search for a real solution I read that one user found that by turning off the wifi 802.1b option on his router the issue was resolved.

I don’t have that specific option, but there was an option to turn off 802.1i (if I remember correctly). I did this and bizarrely the cameras have worked perfectly ever since without needing power cycles.

Why doing this worked I have no idea - to my mind it shouldn’t have. But it seems the camera issue is at the wifi level and I suggest other users consider exploring this solution.

Good hunting.

At least in my case, the camera has stopped going offline (even overnight with low temperatures) after I changed both the ‘when Home’ and ‘when Away’ to just Streaming. Something got reset and the offline problem’s gone away. I then restored the two options back to ‘Stream & Allow Recording’ and the camera is still working fine.

On another note, reset your WiFi router sometimes might fix the offline problem also, so try that easier way first.

Just one question…do you have any hubs connected for other products? I’ve been putting up with this problem for two years, and I finally started troubleshooting by eliminating devices one at a time. When I took the Arlo hub out of the system, all of my other cameras that were constantly intermittent started working without disconnecting. The Circle View Camera, the Circle View Doorbell, and 8 Eufy Cameras all stay connected.

I struggled with these cameras coming online and going offline for a while. I believe what made the difference was turning off the more advanced 2.4 GHz features like Agile Multiband or 20/40 auto mode on my router. It really didn't matter to me anyway since most of the tech that can take advantage of the more modern wifi radio methods tend to use 5 GHz anyway. My advice is to make the 2.4 GHz radio as plain as possible, no auto-modes or smart modes. My cameras were stable after I made that change.

But.. what’s the point in having the camera if it can’t record? I’ve read about this on another site too, they mentioned the same thing, that if you set it to stream only, everything works fine. The problems start when you set the camera(s) to record.

Anyway, I gave up and got a eufy cam. I am also using iCloud for storage and this is what I noticed: at some point, the eufy camera would go offline too! I switched to the native app to see if things would change, turned out that sooner or later the camera would go offline there too.

After searching things a little bit, this is what I did and it seems to be working fine so far: I called my ISP and opted out of CGNAT. Getting a public ip address eliminated the online/offline issues I had. I wish I had thought about it before I returned the Logitech Circleview camera, just to test if it would work, but I’m ok with the eufy now too. Give it a try, it may work for you and all the others as well.
