cannot browse photo albums when uploading an image on MacBook Pro w/Ventura 13.1

I just noticed I cannot browse my Photo albums on my MacBook Pro or iMac, both are running 13.1 Ventura.

When I search under Media>Photos in Finder to attach an image, only the Photos folder shows up, I can't browse My Albums like I could before. I have no problem on my older mac running Monterey. Which leads me to believe it's (another) Ventura issue.

i've tried changing the finder view but still I cannot access any other folder other than the main Photo album which does me no good.

has anyone else noticed this?

Do you mean the File Upload routine that's used in browsers like Safari to find pictures for uploading to websites? If that's what you mean, then you may be running into a glitch in the way Photos is handled in File Upload in Ventura. It used to show all your albums, but in Ventura it shows only the full Library.

So you have to work around it for now. The search box is available, so you can try searching for your picture with its file name, a keyword you've assigned, a person, or a title. It helps to add keywords or titles to pictures as you go so you can find them later.

You can, before the upload, select your pictures in Photos, and then add a keyword, maybe Facebook011023 or something, to the info window (command-I) all at once. Then the search should give you all the pictures.

Another option is to export the pictures you're going to use to a folder, perhaps on you desktop. Then you can upload from there.

No they haven't. I just upgraded my laptop to a new Mac Book Air. I too have numerous picture albums of all my trips. To my dismay half of what I use the laptop for is to post pictures and it is useless. I can't find half of what I want to post. Going back to tag thousands is beyond silly. Scrolling back through thousands of picture to find just that one you want to post is just not going to happen.. I am lucky I still have my old laptop that I can actually use for pictures. The new one just doesn't work, period!

The year long problem: I no longer see my Photo albums when trying attach a photo to an email (Yahoo) or place a photo in InDesign. Only the main Library is viewable. As many have said, finding specific photos among 30,000 is insane. Albums allow for easy selection. The workaround of copying the photos to a folder on my desktop in order to select them....and then trashing the folder is cumbersome and irritating.

The problem persisted through Ventura and now Sonoma. Creating a 2nd User on my Mac didn't work. A full re-install of the system software by Apple didn't solve it.

Two phone calls w/ Apple Techs, each well over an hour, has not found the problem. The idea was put forth that it's a "feature" that's been removed. What software designer would remove a VERY convenient feature? If they did, wouldn't Apple have been deluged w/ complaints?

The update: Apple has tasked me with contacting Adobe & Yahoo to verify that the problem is not their realm. Really?

Same issue. I just sent them feedback at:

It's been very frustrating over the past year plus not to be able to access my albums/folders that I organize under Photos when I go to upload the to Facebook or to Instagram or to even an email! I'm only given the entire photos library which is impossible to scroll back years to upload. Drag and drop options help, but sometimes that's not an option. Just got back from a month long trip and want to share photos, but not willing to scroll scroll scroll after already organizing my photos into albums. I used to be able to access the organization of my photos when uploading, but no longer. Very frustrating and after reading all the comments here it's even more discouraging to see it's been happening for at least a year and a half with no solutions.

I haven't seen any movement on Apple's part on this. I'm keeping my fingers crossed with the new OS out this fall they'll fix it. But I'm not holding my breath either. It's still absurd we can't browse our photo albums in Photos across the board on Mac. The only place I've been able to do it is in Keynote. I don't use Pages or Numbers so I can't confirm that, but I assume it works. Apple needs to get their sh*t together and fix this.

As per this question above..... Have the same problem and its mots annoying to say the least. When I search under Media>Photos in Finder to attach an image, only the Photos folder shows up, I can't browse My Albums like I could before. I have no problem on my older mac running Monterey. Which leads me to believe it's (another) Ventura issue. This works perfectly well in ALL previous OS just not with Ventura. Apple need to fix this asap. This is particularly annoying when trying to upload photos into Facebook/Instagram etc.

Apple Support told me, that before they'd kick this up to the engineering level, I'd have to have Adobe and Yahoo verify that the problem wasn't caused by their software.

I'm relying on common sense and logic...what's the chance that two vastly divergent companies (graphic design program & email platform) would both have changed some internal code (within 1 week of each other) that prevented albums from being visible? I really expect more of Apple...just step up and investigate it.

As above, considering it does not even work with Safari, I am not sure what kicking it up to Adobe will do.

It's infurating as nearly every use case I have for the photo picker is when having to uploads photos to websites. Now I am just presented with a list of 50,000 photos in basically random order.

I have everything sorted in Smart Albums, and my system used to work just perfectly. Previously it was easy to just use the "Last Imported" Album and I would be done in 3 seconds.

Now I still have to trawl through the whole lot because how would I know what image number my phone gave the image. I don't care, I can see the photo I want with my eyes!

I can't believe this has dragged on for so long.

The Apple Community is a community of people who use Apple products and, because many have lots of experience, we can help each other. It's a nice and very useful service, but it does not directly involve Apple.

For information about this Picker problem, see léonie's post at the beginning of this thread. She, too, is not Apple, but she is a most experienced and knowledgeable user.

While this is not the place to talk to Apple, you can let Apple know what you think about the Photos Picker problem here:

More people politely letting Apple know about problems will encourage a faster solution.
