CarPlay keeps getting disconnected via USB cable

I am trying to set up my parents' new car. They live in Europe and drive a 2022 Dacia Sandero Stepway III. The car comes with the CarPlay feature but for some reason it keeps getting disconnected and I cannot figure out why. It connects, but after a few minutes it disappears, and you need to unplug the phone and plug it back. l I used two iPhone 12 Pro and two iPhone 13 minis, all are updated, iOS 16.2. I tried all the tricks that I could find online, and nothing works. The car has the most updated system version. The Bluetooth connection seems to be fine. It's the USB cable connection that is causing issues. BTW, I just bought a brand-new Apple cable. Anyone in a similar situation?

Personally,

I’ve tried the Ottocast U2 air dongle, it works perfectly, it connects instantly.

I was only annoyed by the thing hanging from the usb port on the dashboard and by the fact it remains always connected to the battery (led always on) even when the car is parked overnight. So you need to remove and reconnect it every time you park the car for a while…

Hello oana288,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're having trouble with CarPlay on your parents Dacia Sandero Stepway III and so far, none of the troubleshooting steps you've tried have helped.

Does CarPlay come installed from the manufacturer or are they using an aftermarket radio? We ask, because we don't see the vehicle listed on the official website: iOS - CarPlay - Available Models - Apple

Since you've had the same results with multiple iPhones, we recommend reaching out to Apple Support directly next: Contact - Official Apple Support

Take care.

Hey, got also this issue with Dacia Jogger. Waiting for reply from Dacia HQ from Romania (written letter posted as registered letter, physical one). If they will confirm that they new the problem before selling the car and still sold you a car, and if you live in EU (sorry, no idea how other markets works) technically you can give your car back or demand free upgrade. Will see. From what I know problem exists also in Renault (Megane mostly) and in some South Korean copies of these cars.

Problem does not exist in Germany, Austria and Switzerland from what I know. These are 1st class markets and if they will put such equipment in one of these markets they could face serious problems... then... you can make your opinion on your own.

I am currently sat in my local Dacia garage with the same issue. I have a Dacia duster my daughter has a step way and has the same issue. They are trying to say this is not happening in their workshop so have now taken it for a test drive. My phone is all up to date and the car was brand new in November. I am getting so fed up with this. I drive for my job and use Apple Maps a lot. It’s not ideal when it keeps cutting out while I am driving. Causing me to keep pulling over and remove and replace the cord. They look at me in the garage like I am going mad. It’s totally crazy. I have never had this issue with any other brand of car I have had. Let’s see what they say after their test drive ?

I have the same issue with the newest Dacia Jogger. After every 3 min it disconnects and I need to unplug and re plug the cable for it to work another 3 minutes. I have tried many cables including Apple original cable and that does not make a difference. Android auto works perfectly in this car but now with iPhone 14 pro max it’s unusable. I would need to use this feature daily and hoping there is a fix. I’m situated in Europe, Estonia and I’ve never had any issues with other cars like this

As I mentioned above, according to the Apple website the CarPlay feature is not supported in Romania. I believe it is supported in the countries you listed. My issue with Renault Dacia is...why add the feature if you know it might not properly work? Honestly, I didn't know it came with it until the Sales Rep mentioned it and I got excited because personally I use it and it would have bothered me if it didn't work. My parents on the other hand forget to plug their phone to charge, so they don't care as much. :)
