Email messages return after deleting in Apple Mail

It does not matter if I use my iPhone, iPad or Mac and I have not changed any settings recently. The behavior is happening on all devices and it just started a day or so ago, here is what is happening...

When I delete an email, either by swiping, or clicking delete, the message will go away, only to return a few seconds later. Sometime marked as read, sometimes marked as unread (I don't know if the later matters or not).

Is anyone experiencing or have experienced a similar behavior? It is super frustrating as I have OCD as far as my email is concerned.

I may try a third party app to see if the behavior is limited to the Apple Mail app only.
