Siri Bug: "You don't have the Timer app installed"

Today for no good reason: Siri started claiming that the Apple Watch does not have a timer.

Perhaps Siri has a low opinion of the Apple Developers and their Apple Watch Timer App, but it would be nice if the Apple voice AI would recognize the presence of the Apple Watch Timer program.

Hello JPMapp,

Thank you for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. Are you requesting a command by saying, "Hey Siri, set up a timer" on the Apple Watch? This is command you can request with Siri on the Apple Watch that should function. If that doesn't help, you'll want to restart the Apple Watch as it can help resolve unexpected behavior. If needed, here's how:

Restart Apple Watch
Turn off your Apple Watch: Press and hold the side button until the sliders appear, tap the Power Button, then
drag the Power Off slider to the right.

Turn on your Apple Watch: Hold down the side button until the Apple logo appears.

These steps are outlined in this helpful article: Restart Apple Watch

Kind regards.

Thanks for getting back to us JPMappl, it’s appreciated.

Let’s make sure both your iPhone and Apple Watch are fully updated. If you’re companion iPhone is an iPhone SE (2nd or 3rd generation) or an iPhone 8 or later, the current iOS is 16.2. You can see which software version your iPhone is on by going to Settings > General > About. If it’s not updated, here are the steps: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Once your iPhone is up to date, make sure your Apple Watch is also. You can locate the watchOS version your Apple Watch is on by following the steps here: Identify your Apple Watch - Apple Support. The current watchOS version is watchOS 9.2. This article shows you how to update your Apple Watch and which model are compatible with watchOS 9: Update your Apple Watch - Apple Support

After both are fully updated, please test the issue.

If Siri still doesn’t see the Time app on your Apple Watch, please unpair it from your companion iPhone then set it up again:

Unpair and erase your Apple Watch - Apple Support

Set up your Apple Watch - Apple Support

If Siri still isn’t working as expected, please contact Apple Support to look into this issue further: Get Support

All the best.

Thank you for the suggestion. Resetting the watch works for a time, but then fails again.

I've switched to "Hey Siri Countdown 7 minutes", which is a workaround for now. However, I suspect the root cause is how Siri weights various words with the likelihood that the user is trying to talk to an App Store app: Since this has worked for years without trouble, my guess is someone recently changed those weights in a recent revision to Siri. (A quick search on the web will reveal that many people are now having this problem as well.)

Got same error once in a while. My wife gets this every several days, on her old Watch, on her new Watch. Please do not offer me to reset watch/phone/unpair etc. It is clearly a bug and resetting/rebooting does not remove the cause, it’s just a temporary solution which is working for a limited time.

What you should do is report a bug to the Siri team.
