Letters or characters repeat unexpectedly
• Letters or characters do not appear
• Key(s) feel "sticky" or do not respond in a consistent manner

log-in and test, reboot and test. A reboot will put it back to normal mode.
This test will tell you if third party interference; extensions etc are not loaded in safe boot mode.
—Test issue in another user (or guest user) account Change Users & Groups settings on Mac - Apple Support
This will tell you if it a universal issue or isolated to your user/admin account.
Try an external keyboard and compare your results.
You never say what exact Mac beyond 13" MBP... there are some known models that are subject to trackpad cable faults— same cable for trackpad & keyboard.
