How do I backup my contacts to iCloud on my I phone 12?

Where are your contacts currently being stored? Go to Settings>Contacts>Default Account. What does it say?

Idris, I have an issue today with some, not all, of my contacts suddenly disappearing. It seems to be older ones. Looking for solution here, I found your comment. I do not have an option for Default Account. There is nothing under My Info?

From this screen, click on "Accounts" to see what the 5 are. Then you can go into each one of those individually to see what things are being synced from each.

I have two, iCloud and Yahoo. If I go into Yahoo, the only thing that I'm syncing from it is "Mail". Everything else is off.

Think about what you're doing when you get to this screen (like my yahoo), turning on things that are currently off might add a bunch of stuff that you didn't really want.

If I go into iCloud, it brings me to the same page that I gave you directions to.

My wife lost a bunch of contacts a while back because she deleted the gmail app from her phone. Have you deleted an app like gmail recently by chance?

What version of iOS are you running? Go to Settings>General>About>iOS Version.

Open Settings (gear icon), > [your name], > iCloud, under the section "Apps Using iCloud" click on "Show All", look for "Contacts" and make sure that the slider is green.
