how to reset to factory settings without password

My son has an old iphone 6s and I would like to do a factory reset so that I can use it as an ipod using wifi.

My son changed his apple ID and the old apple id is no longer recognized and he doesn't remember the password either.

I can get into the phone with the 6 digit passcode...and when I run thru the wizard to reset the phone, it stops at the apple id screen and does not recognize his old apple id.

Any suggestions on how to get it factory reset. I don't want to download some program off the internet because who knows if it has a virus, etc.

iCloud uses Apple ID credentials.

If you are not the owner and do not have the Apple ID and Password then there is no way that you can get into this iPhone unless the original owner shares the Apple ID and password with you. If you are lucky you can get into this iPhone if they (owner) accidentally remove the device from their Apple ID.
