I want my ipad to stop ringing when I get a call on my iphone. I've gone to settings and clicked on "remove this device" but there was no device showing when I did that. However, the option to "remove this device" was gone after I did that. I clicked on done and left the screen.
I tested though and the ipad continues to show the phone number and ring.
How can I stop that?

You can easily stop cellular calls being forwarded to your iPad - without disabling FaceTime.
On your iPhone:
Settings > Mobile Data > Calls on Other Devices > Allow Calls on Other Devices - set to OFF

Depending upon your country, you will see either the Mobile Data or Cellular item in settings; they are functionally the same option.
From Allow Calls on Other Devices, you can individually explicitly enable/disable devices from the list - or fully disable the feature for all devices.
Disabling FaceTime will not only prevent the use of Cellular Calling to/from your iPad, but also completely disabled FaceTime - this feature being something that you may wish to keep enabled. For iPad, the FaceTime App provides access to WiFi/Cellular Calling - as well as FaceTime Calls (Apple’s FaceTime being an entirely different service).
thank you @lotuspilot. I don't have "mobile" data but I have "Cellular" data and I went there to turn off the ipad. I also have an iwatch so I did not turn off allow calls on other devices. However, I do not see the iwatch listed. So, I'll check it a little today to see if I can get it all working. Turning off facetime did the trick earlier though.

On your ipad you can go to settings and "turn off" the phone app. This just like disconnects it from your apple ID, so it won't ring when you get a call to your phone.
