The Mac should have been prepared for a new user according to this Apple document: What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your Mac - Apple Support . You IT department should be able to help you. You'll need the previous users User Name and Password to log in, add a new admin account. Then you can log into the new admin account and remove the old admin account. If there are documents, etc. that you need copy them to the new account before removing the account or they will be deleted along with the account.
