Maps dings instead of talking using AirPods Gen 2 Pro

I don’t understand why all of a sudden my Apple Maps will not speak the directions to me when I’m using my Airpods Gen 2 Pro, and listening to Pandora, Apple Music, or Apple Podcast.

It just dings in my ear, or it will turn off what I’m listening to, and speak the directions out of the phone itself, bypassing my AirPods all together.

If anyone has a “fix” for this, I’d appreciate the help!

Once you start the route, tap on the speaker icon on the right side of the screen, then tap the top icon.

Dwarf797,

You may find some helpful info on adjusting settings for spoken directions in Maps here: Change settings for spoken directions in Maps on iPhone - Apple Support

Turn spoken directions on or off
On the map, tap the audio button (for example, the All Guidance button), then choose an option.

The All Guidance button.
All directions are spoken.
The Alerts Only button.
Only driving alerts are spoken.
The No Guidance button.
No directions are spoken.

Change other settings for spoken directions
Go to Settings  > Maps > Spoken Directions, then turn on or off the following options:
•Directions Pause Spoken Audio: Turn on this setting to pause spoken audio (like podcasts and audio books) when you receive spoken directions.
•Directions Wake Device: Turn on this setting to wake the iPhone display when you receive spoken directions while following driving or cycling directions.
•Directions on Radio: On supported cars, turn on this setting to hear spoken directions when you’re listening to the radio.

Cheers.
