Apple TV 4K cuts out

Music and the audio on videos streamed through my Apple TV 4K drops out intermittently. We have rebooted the device with no improvement. It’s been dropping audio since we got it. Is the device defective or are the connections wrong? It’s connected to our LG smart tv which can output to an amplifier or use internal tv audio.
