I cannot open my Airtag, can you help? It will not appear on my find my.

We understand that you don't see your AirTag in Find My on your iPhone.

It sounds like you may need to reset your AirTag then set it up again. This article explains how to reset your AirTag by removing the battery: How to reset your AirTag - Apple Support

"An AirTag can be associated with one Apple ID. If you want to use an AirTag that someone else has used, they need to remove the AirTag from their Apple ID first. If the previous user removed the AirTag from their Apple ID but they were out of Bluetooth range of the AirTag, then you need to reset it before you can use it with your devices.

Here's how to reset your AirTag:

1. Press down on the polished stainless steel battery cover of your AirTag and rotate counterclockwise until the cover stops rotating.
2. Remove the cover and the battery.*
3. Replace the battery.
4. Press down on the battery until you hear a sound. This sound means that the battery is connected. 
5. When the sound finishes, repeat the process four more times, removing and replacing the battery, then pressing down on the battery until you hear a sound. You should hear a sound each time you press on the battery, for a total of five sounds. The fifth sound is different from the previous four. This indicates that the AirTag is now ready to pair.
6. Replace the cover by aligning the three tabs on the cover with the three slots on your AirTag.
7. Press down on the cover.
8. Rotate the cover clockwise until it stops rotating."

I did the same thing ChucklesDad suggested. Only thing I did different was wrap my index finger with scotch tape sticky side out so the tap didn't slip when pressing down and turning counter clock wise. Also Duracell and Energizer CR2032 batteries are a bit too thick. Panasonic CR2032 batteries fit perfectly.

If you are having a hard time twisting the AirTag open, I found a trick that worked well for me. After struggling to open it for an hour, I took two pieces of scotch tape and looped them over so they were sticky on both sides. I put one the front and one on the back, which allowed me to grip the covers and rotate counter clockwise until it opened.

The trick is less pressure. Counter intuitive unfortunately.

I struggled aswell. It didn't work, pushing and turning, nothing happened. The trick however is don't use too much force. Pusch gentle and I am sure it will work. If you push too hard you push the innertag hard against the case and it won't move...

Try putting out the battery and put it back in.

om the back, turn counterclockwise, BAM it’s open!

I tried the tape “fix” with super sticky carpet tape and still could not get the chrome disc to rotate independent of the ceramic (plastic?) one. I put it in the freezer overnight and using the tape method they came apart easily.

The sticky tape trick above worked for me. I used packaging tape (not scotch tape) in a loop on the top and bottom. I used medium pressure and it worked pretty well.

I used a small suction cup from my sons bath toys bag after struggling to open with my thumbs and it immediately opened

You will need

• painter's tape
• hot melt glue gun

Place tape on a table approximately 2 x 2 inches. Place tape on metal side of AirTag. Make a small puddle of hot melt glue the size of an M & M on the table. Squish the tape side of the AirTag into it. Let it harden and cool down. Now push and twist open counter clockwise. Replace battery, reassemble, and remove tapes.

I could not get the tape trick to work but it did inspire me to find another solution. Finger cots and a jar opener!

Found it quite a bit easier twisting with the tag between my palms instead of using thumbs.
