hi
i have found may topics how to restore indexing etc with not working spotlight, but my issue is different - I cannot run it at all, neither by clicking loop on the bar or using cmd+space as usual,
can anyone advise how to fix it ?

Try going to System Settings, Keyboard, Click button 'Keyboard Shortcuts', then click 'Spotlight' in the list on the left. Insure that 'Show spotlight search' is enabled. Then press Command + Spacebar. If it's not set to Command + Spacebar, double click it and set it to Command + Spacebar by entering those keys together.
Not sure what you're suggesting to do here, but no matter what I change the spotlight shortcut to, it still doesn't run. All other shortcuts–including the "Show Finder search window" still work.

This worked for me. I was in the exact same situation, having tried all of the above. I unplugged the external monitor, and pressed command-space, and the Spotlight menu appeared, but half off the screen, suggesting that it was indeed running, just not visible due to some bug. Thanks!!!
