Finder Recents not working

On my M1 24" Mac 4 Port in Finder Recents it is rare to get any files showing. Occasionally I will get 1 or 2 but they will disappear within a day. Where is a setting option as it used to show 30, or more, days? Used to work until Ventura 13.1 I.

There is a Recents item under the  menu for documents, applications and servers which you can set to from None to 50 in the System/Desktop & Dock/Menu Bar settings pane:

Is that the one you were thinking of?

"Recents" still works for me in Ventura 13.2 on my iMac. You could try this: go to Finder > Settings > Sidebar and turn "Recents" off. Then re-boot your Mac, go back to Finder Settings and turn "Recents" back on. You could also boot into Safe Mode then re-boot normally, out of Safe Mode. Safe Mode often sorts out glitches. Cheers!

FWIW, "Recents" is almost just as useless as its predecessor "All Files".

To begin with, you have absolutely no control over it, and it typically (but not in your case) it shows way too many files, anyway.

However, it is so easy to actually have what you want and need right there in the Sidebar.

That is what Smart Folders are for.

You can have one for, say, "PDF files created in the last week", or "Image files that were created this month and have names starting with Sand", or just any criteria that makes sense to you. Instead of looking for a needle in a haystack, you search for something meaningful to you and your search results are always up to date.

However, there are now documents going back 3 yrs which is not that helpful.

Recents isn’t really only recently used files. It is all files which have their LastUsedDate metadata set. It gets updated by opening the file in Finder. The list of found files is sorted by that last opened date. The metadata is never removed, so all files opened in Finder will populate the Recents Smart Folder.
