password not correct message

Hi All,

so I am not very techy with macbooks. However I received a new to me laptop and I have to reinstall the OS X yostemite 10.10 on the Macintosh HD. When I enter in my ID and password I get the message some thing is icorrect - but it is not. I also get a verification code that pops up on my iphone but I am not getting anything on the macbook to enter the code into...


please help. PS. I have also not synced my iphone to the macbook yet. I know I must sound very newbie and I am please help.

Yosemite doesn't have full support of multifactor authentication.

If you are using an MFA authorized AppleID to login, look on the cell phone logged in with that AppleID for the registration code, and put it in any the tail end of the password you put on your Mac.

If it doesn't work you may need to use Internet recovery to wipe the Mac again, ignoring requests for AppleID/iCloud until after you have managed to upgrade the OS to 10.12 Sierra if possible.
