How to "mirror" the image I see when making a QuickTime recording from my built in iMac camera?

First, I know "mirroring" means something else, but I'm not sure how to explain it in the header above.

I'm using QuickTime to recording a very simple youtube video of myself talking. But, I want the image I see of myself to be "mirrored" like it looks in photo-booth, or on a Zoom call.

If it is NOT mirrored, it feels awkward for me as I record myself. Maybe "flipped horizontal" would be a better way to say it. (what is the vocabulary word for this?)

And, is there a way to make a high quality (high-resolution with audio and video) recording using PhotoBooth. This app is already set up where I'm seeing myself "flipped horizontal"

There seems to be very little on this online, I searched for a while and found nothing.

Thanks,

Mike

I'm using a new iMac desktop...

Hey there Clelland,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities.

To get started, while it would not be possible to mirror the camera view while recording a video in QuickTime Player on your Mac, you can flip or video horizontally after the recoding is complete with the steps shown here: Rotate or flip a clip in QuickTime Player on Mac - Apple Support

1. In the QuickTime Player app  on your Mac, open the movie.
2. Choose View > Show Clips, then select the clip.
The selected clip is outlined in yellow.
3. From the Edit menu, choose to rotate the clip left or right, or flip it horizontally or vertically.
4. When you’re finished, click Done.

As for taking a video in the Photo Booth app, check out the information in this next link: Take a photo or record a video in Photo Booth on Mac - Apple Support

Record a video
If you’re using an external video camera, make sure it’s connected to your computer and turned on.
1. In the Photo Booth app  on your Mac, if you see the View Photo button  or the View Video button , click it to see the Take Photo button  or Record Video button .
2. If the Record Video button  isn’t showing, at the bottom left, click the “Record a movie clip” button .
3. Click the Record Video button . Click the Stop button  when you finish recording.

Let us know if that's able to help.

Have a great day!
