How to get rid of McAfee pop up notifications on my MacBook Pro?

How to get rid of McAfee pop up notifications? I don't remember installing it, or if I did, I uninstalled it ages ago and now suddenly there the notifications are again. Every post I've seen tells you to go to Applications and use the uninstaller...but what do you do when you can't see the McAfee application anywhere and have no installer?

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 12.6

Generally, this works.

A site you visited added itself to notifications in Safari. Everything you're seeing is nothing but a scam.

Open Safari's preferences. Click on the Websites tab and then scroll down to Notifications. Clear any entries in the right hand window. You might find something similar in the Pop-up Windows heading below that. Block any you don't recognize.

Then if you want, uncheck the box below as shown here.

I personally can't think of any reason why I would ever want any website to push notices to me.

Stop unwanted Notifications - Apple Community describes what you need to do.

I realize threads like this tend to grow to the point of becoming cumbersome to navigate, so it's probably easier to simply click that link in the email you're reading now — even though it's generally not a good idea to click links in an email.

Did exactly as you outlined ... tossed the three P-Lists altogether and cleared the trash of them. Restarted my Mac OS Big Sur ... brought up Safari ... two minutes later, there it is again the exact window you illustrate. I have been shoving the box over and down to the right with my mouse arrow to see only a sliver of white at the right corner. That's the only way I could think of to get it from being completely annoying.

To turn off the annoying McAfee notification: Open the menu under the Apple symbol, upper left. Choose System Settings. Choose Notifications—it is beside a bell within a red square in the first half of the list. Do not bother adjusting all the Apps. Just look toward the lower third of the list: Find the gear icon with the word NOTIFICATINS next to it. Select off. That turns off all notifications.

Thank you. This fake malware keeps popping up and when I click No or Pause. (Only 2 options) My 2 month old Mac freezes up completely. 2nd day in a row.

The scammers used a copy of Apples System Setting icon for the 1st small pop up - so that looks pretty legit. Then the full page appears, McAfee but the web browser clearly shows something else and you have no option to unfreeze your computer to make a purchase or shut it down.

Wow great I got rid of Mc Agee’s annoying fake spam virus by deleting it from notifications

thanks a million even Norton experts could not do it and wanted me to call back because they thought they saw the problem but the annoying banner kept popping up just before he hung up. By that time he used up too many. remote sessions so he asked me to call back. Rather than do that I poise the question to the Internet and got your great answer which worked. Thank you. God bless.

I think there is a defect in MacBook Air that allows these pop-ups and other issues. I used a MacBook Pro for 15 years and did not have these issues. I got a MacBook Air 15-inch in July 2023 with 512GB upgraded storage, not long after the 15-inch MacBook Air was released. It's been nothing but problems. I was inundated with McAfee pop-ups soon after getting it, and soon after I had multiple issues with the computer stalling, running slow, screen randomly darkening and lightening, etc. Three times in less than 3 months I went into an Apple store and they erased the software and reinstalled it, saying it was fixed. Within hours of using it, I'd have the same problems starting up again. On my fourth visit, they gave me a new MacBook Air 15-inch. I've been using it for about three days, and today the McAfee pop-ups appeared, and I know it will only get worse from here. I was told MacBook Air and MacBook Pro are using the same Safari software and it's not the software. Then what is it? There are known issues with hardware on the new 15-inch MacBook Air. I don't know about earlier Air models. How is it I can go 15 years without pup-up and other problems on a MacBook Pro but on a MacBook Air I can't get rid of the problems. I loved my MacBook Pro, but I think my MacBook Air is an awful computer in comparison due to the constant pop-ups and other issues. Apple needs to fix the issues with MacBook Air, maybe a recall to fix. There are complaints like this all over the internet about the MacBook Air. I don't think I'll be a MacBook Air user long. Sad!

Happened to me too. I only have three websites that I allow notifications in my notifications center. I’ll just tell you now one is Apple, the other 2 are work related and I trust them.

so none of these suggestions have helped me

Anyone know how to make this mcafee banner with ‼️ ‼️ with the apple “system” icon stop popping up?

It’s new. Very new, at least the last couple of days new.

Did you check in the Pop-Up Windows heading just below that?

Also, not all notifications are directly from Safari. A third party app you installed may be causing them. Look in:

System Settings > Notifications

Any there any you don't recognize? Even if you do recognize all of them, turn all third party notifications off and see if they stop. If so, turn them back on one at a time to find out which one (or more) is the culprit.
