Ipad 5 not showing IOS 16.2 in settings

My wife and I have identical IPADS.

I received the 16.2 notification in the settings app a week or two ago. She hasn't received anything. Still IOS15.2 I believe.

Where is it??

Thanks.....Ken

Something here doesn’t make sense.

iPadOS 15.7.3 is only available to iPad models that are unable to be updated to iPadOS16.x - these models being the iPad mini4 and iPad Air2. If you have another iPad that has been updated to iPadOS 16.1 or later, it is not an identical model.

Here is a list of the highest version of iOS supported by the older models of iPad (for simplicity - “generations” are shortened to a number) that are restricted in their ability to be updated:

32-bit devices (obsolete)

iPad1 - iOS 5.1.1

iPad2, iPad3 and iPad mini1 - iOS 9.3.5 (WiFi Only models), iOS 9.3.6 (WiFi & Cellular)

iPad4 - iOS 10.3.3 (WiFi Only), iOS 10.3.4 (WiFi & Cellular)

64-bit devices

iPad Air1, iPad mini2 and iPad mini3 - iOS 12.5.7

iPad Air2, iPad mini4 - iPadOS 15.7.3

Newer models are all able to be updated to the current version, iPadOS 16.3

  • iPad Pro (all models)
  • iPad Air (3rd generation and later)
  • iPad (5th generation and later)
  • iPad mini (5th generation and later)

If your iPad is capable of being updated to a more recent version of iOS/iPadOS than is currently installed, these support pages outline both the available methods by which the update can be performed - and troubleshooting should you experience difficulties:

Update your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch – Apple Support

If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch – Apple Support

If your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch won’t update - Apple Support

iOS update and restore errors – Apple Support

Be aware that while an iPad may be capable of update, in some circumstances you may need to use a computer to perform the update. To do so, you will need access to either a Window PC (with iTunes for Windows installed) or a Mac (with iTunes or Finder - as appropriate for the installed version of MacOS). Ensure that your installed version of iTunes has been updated to the most recent version; the essential device drivers are included.

Update to the latest version of iTunes – Apple Support

Update software on iPhone, iPad or iPod touch in iTunes on PC - Apple Support

If you have a beta profile installed, ensure this has been removed from your iPad - as, otherwise, installation of production software updates may be inhibited. This support page provides the necessary information to remove the beta from your iPad:

How to uninstall iOS beta software - Apple Support

You should note that for your iPad to install an available update, its battery must be charged to at least 50% capacity - and/or be connected to its Power Adapter. Similarly, the iPad can only be updated over a standard WiFi connection - or be updated by a PC or Mac using iTunes or Finder - over a USB connection.

Greetings I Problems,

If the latest software version is still not appearing on your wife's iPad, we suggest that you update it manually using iTunes on a computer that you trust. Here's how:

"Before you update

  1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
  2. If you have a Mac, check that your computer is running macOS Mojave or earlier. Using a Mac with macOS Catalina or later? Update your device using the Finder instead. If you're not sure which macOS you have, you can find out which macOS your Mac is using.
  3. If your computer is using Personal Hotspot on the device that you're updating, connect your computer to a different Wi-Fi or Ethernet network before you update.

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iTunes

  1. Open iTunes on your Mac with macOS Mojave or earlier or on your Windows PC.
  2. Connect your device to your computer.
  3. Click the device button in iTunes toolbar. If you don't see your device, learn what to do.
  4. In the Summary tab, click Check for Update.

An iTunes window showing the Summary tab.

5. Click Download and Update. Continue by following the onscreen instructions.

6. If asked, enter your passcode. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do."

We hope this helps.

Have a wonderful day!

Hi I Problems,

We'll be glad to assist with your wife's iPad. If an update is not showing, and it's eligible for iOS 16, there's likely a profile or similar on the device preventing it from being updated. Often times, this can occur if a beta profile or similar was installed.

To remove this, follow the steps here: How to uninstall iOS or iPadOS beta software - Apple Support

"

Go to Settings > General, and tap VPN & Device Management.

Tap the iOS Beta Software Profile.

Tap Remove Profile, then restart your device."

We hope that clears things up for you. Let us know if you need further assistance.

Cheers.

Hi and thanks for the reply, however, there is no IOS Beta Software to remove in my wife's IPAD. Checked that location.

Just the other day, it received IOS 15.7.3 ?? No idea where that came from but we loaded it??

As I mentioned, her IPAD and mine are identical.

I received 16.3 the other day for mine!

Haven't hooked her's up to I Tunes yet. May have to. This is weird behaviour.

Thanks.....Ken
