how to update app that on external hard drive on mac

I moved Xcode to an external SSD drive, and after a long time of not using it I connected it again.

A message appeared that Xcode should be updated, after the update I made it turned out that the application was downloaded again to the computer,

And the Xcode app on the portable SSD is not updated.

We used to be able to do a direct download of the DMG for xcode command line tools from the Apple website at https://developer.apple.com/download/all/?q=Command%20Line%20Tools%20for%20Xcode%2014 However, this no longer works. There's even a link saying more downloads, but this only takes you back to the OS section of the Downloads page. I don't want to download all of XCode because it's several GB and I'm on a metered internet connection. Xcode keeps deleting it's own 17.0 runtimes I'm running some selenium grid tests on two mac minis over Github Actions, the problem that keeps happening is that the iOS 17.0 runtime keeps getting deleted for no reason, so all the simulators just disappear! When I try to re-install it will installl "iOS 17.0 simulator" and won't let me install the "iOS 17" runtime. Xcode 15.0 Ventura: 13.6.1 (22G313)

Not enough storage to download Xcode I wanted to download Xcode on my MacBook Pro but no matter how much I delete, I don't have enough storage for the app. My MacBook has 120gb, less than 30gb of that includes all my files, applications, pictures etc, 12gb is under "Other" and a huge 50gb is under "System Data". I have around 28gb left on my device. What are some solutions that I could try out? Thank you!

If necessary move the new version if that is the goal....
