Downloaded Originals Photos to Mac from iCloud but it didn't save full quality Slo motion videos

Hello,

I had a sizable library stored on iCloud and wanted to remove them from iCloud and have a hard copy on my hard drive. So I set the library to default on an external harddrive with ample space and said, Save originals to this Mac. After like 3 days of downloading and watching the number decrease consistently I finally got it to store all photos in the Library... or so I thought.

I disconnected from the internet and went to go through and make sure I got my footage. Most items seemed to be there and in full quality until I got to the Slow Motion 120fps footage. Where there was the (!) on the bottom right that says the full quality hasn't download from iCloud.

And when I'm back online, I scroll to some video footage and I see the the round circle indicating that its downloading from iCloud.

What gives? How do I know i got the full quality image downloaded? Now I'm concerned I'm just still seeing thumbnails of even the photos.

I need to remove these from iCloud entirely and obviously can't do that until I'm absolutely possitive I have the full quality downloaded.

Thanks for any and all help.

Hello DjElfo,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

These steps should help you download all of your photos and videos in full resolution:

"On your Mac or PC

  1. On iCloud.com, click Photos and select a photo or video. Hold the command key on your Mac or control key on your PC to select multiple photos or videos.
  2. Click and hold the download button the iCloud download icon in the upper corner of the window. If you want to download your photo or video as it was originally captured or imported, choose Unmodified Original. For JPEG or H.264 format — including edits, and even if it was originally in HEIF or HEVC format — choose Most Compatible.*
  3. Click Download.

If your photos download as a ZIP archive, learn how to uncompress the folder on your Mac or your PC."

More details can be found here: Download iCloud photos and videos

Once you complete these steps, test to see if you can access all of your files.

Let us know if you run into anymore issues.

Cheers!

Hi DjElfo,

As you indicated in your initial post that some items reflected that the full quality version hadn't downloaded from iCloud, verify first that the process is complete per Get help with iCloud Photos:

"How do I check the status of my uploads or downloads to iCloud Photos?

  1. Open the Photos app.
  2. Select the Library tab, then tap All Photos.
  3. Scroll to the bottom to see the status bar."

"How do I check the status of my uploads or downloads to iCloud Photos?

  1. Open the Photos app.
  2. Select the Library tab, then tap All Photos.
  3. Scroll to the bottom to see the status bar."

If the process indicates that it is no longer downloading content and the concern remains, continue investigating this with Apple Support directly.

Regards.

Understood DjElfo,

So you followed the steps listed at Export photos, videos, slideshows, and memories in Photos on Mac - Apple Support to download content from iCloud to Photos, but the videos at least seem to lack their native resolution.

Based on this - as it should download the full resolution - we'd recommend that you contact Apple Support. This way, they can research this in greater detail with you.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities!

Hi,

Thanks for getting back to me.

Did you read my original post? This was about in Photos, clicking the 'Download Originals to This Mac" option.

Are you saying this option is not reliable?

I have over 13,000 photos/videos in the iCloud, and doing the manual download would be an enormous amount of time because it only allows 100 photos at a time.

Hi

thanks for getting back to me but it seems you didn't read my original message either.

I'm talking about in the app known as Photos, when you click this option:

and it says it's downloaded all the photos and videos, but when I go to the videos, it shows the (!) saying it needs to download from iCloud still. Are you guys saying that this is not reliable?

It doesn't do me any good to post a link to an unrelated issue.

thanks
