upgrade from 2013 Yosemite 10.10.5 to Catalina

Followed Niel's and Jollie0's advice to upgrade from Yosemite 10.10.5 to Catalina after backing up with external drive "My Passport" and Time Machine. This worked fine but now these two messages: Backup complete Time Machine has finished the first backup to My Passport. Then, Backup Failed Time Machine couldn't backup to My Passport.

Now what??
