I need help with my Macbook Pro 2015

Hi,

In the exploration of troubles being "unable to authenticate with gmail and yahoo" I removed mail accounts and some entries in Keychain. Following many "Safe" reboots, disabling anti-malware, applying advice to bin entries in the User/<UID>/Library/. and ./Caches ./Containers ./Preferences I am left with being unable to add mail accounts either through 'System Preferences/InternetAccounts' or 'Mail/Preferences/Accounts' the result is far from good. :(

The advice in the How to reset mail to factory settings. - Apple Community was followed although there were significant differences in available folders and files missing.

I seem to have been left with an unstable platform after installing a Macpaw product.

So the advice being sought relates to stabilising the platform and having the Mail.app work effectively. Product info follows.

Help would be appreciated 'cause I'm at a loss now.

Thanks.

CleanMyMac has a notorious reputation on these forums for causing all sorts of problems with macOS. Uninstall CMM by following the developer's instructions. Then try reinstalling macOS over top of itself to see whether this may fix your problems....your data should be unaffected by this process. However, you should make sure to have a good backup just in case.

If reinstalling macOS over top of itself does not help, then you can perform a clean install of macOS by first erasing the drive followed by installing macOS. When restoring from a backup you need to be careful or you could bring the problem back. It is best to restore from a backup made before the problem was first noticed, otherwise you should just restore your files.

Thanks for confirming CMM is somewhat troublesome. I'd attempted re-installing macOS from the internet when I dicovered internet connection issues. This lead to a fix...

I saw the response on the forum after sorting the issues.

I'd used non-apple mail clients which worked ok. I also discovered that there had been some truly weird issues with the Vodafone Router. Thinking back the issues started following an macOS upgrade early December and I'd not found the motivation to fix the problem until recently.

I can't prove it but it is certainly possible that the router/network issue was the root-cause of the authentication failures so that might be the best place to start - bump the router and re-check the configuration.

Adding CMM and McAfee over the period may have compounded matters though.
