Apple Watch Ultra - speaker volume control

When taking a call and using the speaker I can hardly hear the caller when outside, can you adjust the volume to make it louder, I tried turning the crown but that had no effect, thanks

How to turn your Apple Watch volume up or down

On your Apple Watch, open the Settings app.
Scroll down, then tap Sounds & Haptics.
Tap the volume down button to decrease the volume or tap the volume up button to increase it. You can also tap the slider, then turn the Digital Crown.

So there must be a bug as turning the Digital Crown does not change the volume. The only answer is to get my phone out and then increase the volume using that, which negates the point of using the watch to take the call. I wonder whether the Crown adjustment will only take it to the level that the phone is currently set at....? Either that or it is a bug.

That doesn’t help, it’s not the volume of the alert that’s at issue, it’s the volume of the call itself
