Post-Ventura 13.2 installation USB storage not attaching and some cause kernel panic
Has anyone else encountered this? 2019 Mac Pro.
I've submitted 5-6 problem reports after seeing this kernel panic predictably repeat. I do not know if the problem is Ventura 13.2 or third-party software (e.g., BitDefender) now causing a kernel panic after Ventura 13.2 update. All I know for sure is this problem did not happen before today, and I performed the Ventura 13.2 update last night.
I first noticed the problem when my USB-C-attached two-disk RAID 1 was not attached and it was not recognized under any circumstance after a standard system boot. In recovery mode, the USB RAID was recognized without issue, and a SanDisk Cruzer 4 GB USB-A I attached worked normally.
When I tried to attach the Cruzer after a standard system boot, it caused an immediate system freeze and hard reboot due to a kernel panic.
In the last report sent in, I included these comments after testing other USB storage devices.
"After reporting this kernel panic multiple times, I have additional test cases to report. To summarize past results:
1) OWC Mercury Elite Pro Dual RAID Storage Enclosure with USB (10Gb/s) + 3-Port Hub (OWCMEDCH7T00O), attached with USB-C connection, loaded with two (2) 2.0TB Seagate BarraCuda 3.5-inch SATA 6.0Gb/s (ST2000DM008): recognized during recovery mode, not recognized after standard system boot.
2) SanDisk Cruzer 4GB (SDCZ36-004G) , USB-A connection: recognized during recovery mode, causes this type of kernel panic and hard reboot when attached after standard boot. It is not a particular device; I have two of these USB sticks, one formatted APFS one formatted ExFAT, and the same kernel panic happened each time.
And to report two new discoveries:
3) Seagate Portable drive 5TB (SRD0NF1), attached with USB-A connection: recognized during recovery mode, not recognized after standard system boot. Does not cause kernel panic, so USB-A mode alone is not the root cause. Can not rule our USB + flash as the cause? This device has an HDD internal, and I don't have an USB-attached SSD to test.
4) SanDisk Ultra 64GB microSD (6105CRDCF0), USB-A connection via Transcend USB3 adapter: recognized during recovery mode, caused this kernel panic report.
PCI-Express-attached storage does not appear to be affected at all. I have an OWC Accelsior 4M2 PCIe M.2 SSD expansion card, 4 x 480 GB P12 NVMe modules. Does not appear to be affected in any way by this issue."
