Emails with attached PDFs send as gibberish

When I send emails, I always BCC myself. Suddenly, every time I send a message with an attached PDF, it lands in my inbox as gibberish. I looked up this problem on Apple Community and saw a recommendation to disable everything in Privacy. That didn't fix it. I use Yahoo email but get to it through my email icon on my MacBook. Please help!

This is what I see at the top, then pages and pages of some kind of code. It shows up this way in my Inbox and in my Sent folder.

Hello river2003,

Thank you for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. How are you viewing the PDF attachment? Is it by double clicking the attachment or previewing the attachment without opening it? There's two methods in how an attachment is viewed. Let's ensure you're following these steps:

View email attachments
1. In the Mail app  on your Mac, select a message that includes attachments.
Look for the Attachment icon  next to the sender’s name in the message list.

2. In the message, do one of the following:

Open an attachment in an app: Double-click the attachment.

Preview an attachment without opening it: Select the attachment, then press the Space bar, or force click the attachment.

Some attachments—like images or one-page PDF documents—are displayed directly in the message. If you’d rather view the attachment as an icon, Control-click it, then choose View as Icon from the shortcut menu. To display the attachment again, Control-click it, then choose View in Place.

This information may help provide some clarity and is outlined here: View, save, or delete email attachments in Mail on Mac - Apple Support

If that doesn't help, we suggest to rebuild the mailbox. This can help resolve unexpected behavior with the emails in the Mail app. Here's how:

1. In the Mail app  on your Mac, select a mailbox in the sidebar.

2. Choose Mailbox > Rebuild.

These steps are outlined in this article: Rebuild mailboxes in Mail on Mac - Apple Support

We look forward to hearing back from you with an update.

Kind regards.
