Apple Ultra Watch 9.3 update battery drain (bleeding out)

Anyone else have an Ultra 9.3 update in the last 36 hours that is bleeding your battery? I was averaging 3-4 days between charges as I do not use GPS much and don’t have cellular activated. But it just died before I made it to 24 HOURS from full charge.

Apple Watch Ultra, watchOS 9

For the full procedure see below

If it still discharges after all Watch resets it suggests it could be an incompatibility in the software in the Watch and the iPhone with the latest OS releases. What I would do is

-Unpair and erase the Watch

-Backup the iphone

-Restore iphone to factory settings

-Set up the iphone as new without restoring the backup. Install only your essential email accounts, no extra software, no social media

-Pair the Watch to the iphone

-Run them both like that for 24 hours and see how long the battery lasts.

Only when that test is over can you repeat the first three actions then set up the phone but restoring the backup this time.

If the Watch lasts longer the first time than the second time then it proved it is software on the iPhone causing it. In that case you would have to export as much data as possible such as n-sync’d photos and documents out of the phone to a place of safety such as iCloud before repeating the restore and set up as new process.

Tell me LD150, looks like you have more knownledge.

Why does it suddenly appears after the update from 9.2 to 9.3 ?

  • Why was the watch giving me a battery life on 9.2 from 7am to 7am the next day and still at 30%?
  • Why do I have to limit some functions in this 9.3.1 update to get this same battery lifespan as with the 9.2 software?

So my watch is suddenly broken in the middle of an update?

Finally, some progress with this issue. I've been experiencing the same issue since the 9.2 update. I agree with what you said earlier about there being some sort of correlation to the updates and battery drain. Obviously not everyone's device has been affected the same way but why would so many people's watches suddenly drain faster than before after an update?

I've tried every other method at least 5 times each and while I got some improvement, my Ultra battery life is still nothing like it was before 9.2.

I'm going to try the method you mentioned with crossed fingers.

It seems to be an OS issue. Hopefully this will help others resolve it

By installing the same OS you have proved that it is not an OS issue but an issue with the installation of that OS on her iphone.

Not the same thing at all. There is no bug in the OS

And if the problem had been incompatible third party software you would have restored it and its settings and be no better off.

Short circuiting the diagnostic process worked for you but may not work for others.

However I'm pleased you sorted it out.

So, since you responded to the first post in this thread, how many of the suggestions in the responses have you tried? It often makes sense to read the thread from top to bottom and try what others have suggested you try, as opposed to being a "me too" poster.

I own Apple Watch Ultra. No update yet has reduced battery life. This means it's not an update issue. It's not an iPhone iOS issue. You have to try things on your device to see what may have caused any drain issues as this is most definitely NOT a universal issue.

So. Due to a crappy update. Now I am tasked with completely starting over. Spending hours to fix something I didnt cause. And in the end we will still not know what caused this. i did not change anything in my phone or on the watch. This is absolutely caused by an update. either the iPhone or watch or both. @apple. can you fix the issue with your flagship watch and not push the **** on the customer!
