Apple Mail Crashes after Ventura 13.2

I upgraded to Ventura 13.2 and now my Mail crashes everytime I open it. Is anyone else having this problem? is there a solution?

Having experienced the same problem with the Ventura Mail App for the last several days and after re-installing Ventura with no discernible positive effect, I stubbled upon this thread. After reading through all the proposed solutions and attendant successes and failures, I tried the following.

  1. Turned off mail for all internet accounts via System Settings => Internet Accounts.
  2. Restarted the Mail App - It opened!
  3. Closed the Mail App.
  4. Reactivated Mail for one of my internet accounts.
  5. Restarted mail - It opened and downloaded new emails!
  6. Repeated steps 3 through 5 for each of my accounts.

The Mail App has been up and running correctly now for about 30 minutes ... fingers crossed!

A - Would suggest updating to the Current Stable Release 13.4.1

The links below are directly related to the the above suggestion.

Once the computer is running the latest Ventura - Test if the issue persists

I have what seems to be the same issue. After updating from Ventura 13.1.1 to 13.2 on my intel macs (MacBookPro and MacMini), the Apple Mail app opens initially, but then inevitably after about 1 minute just hangs, showing only the beach-ball-of-death. After a minute or two more, the "Force Quit Applications" window starts showing "Mail (not responding)". I have tried running in safe mode, and reinstalling accounts, but that didn't help. Rebuilding a mailbox is impossible because the app freezes before this can complete. It seems to be triggered by two of my internet accounts: my work account using Microsoft Exchange/OutLook and one of my personal accounts (using gmx.net). My gmail and iCloud and old work accounts do not cause Mail to freeze.

The other seemingly very relevant thing is that this did not happen after updating from Ventura 13.1.1 to 13.2 on my Apple Silicon mac with the exact same internet accounts set up! (indeed, my apple silicon MPB is new and was migrated from my intel MBP about 2 weeks ago using 13.1.1).

Hey again!

Do you have other mail accounts set up in Apple Mail? And if so, does it work normally with your road runner account disabled? I believe that’s Spectrum, and as for Cox, I don’t even think they provide email service anymore to new users.

I’ve seen this in the past, but rarely with a specific provider only, and only on a specific OS version. So that info may help.

If you need to, give Apple a call, (Or Road Runner for that matter):

Contact Apple for support and service - Apple Support

I prefer the Mail app over a website for sure, so would want this fixed as well, luckily for me I don’t use any of these email providers.

Hope you get it sorted out!

Hey there!

I understand. I didn’t mention removing the accounts though, perhaps disabling the problem accounts for the time being. Or using webmail, (Which I don’t like doing as well). From what I saw, if you have several Cox (Or rr accounts for that matter), it can be just one account causing the issue, so if you have multiple, perhaps finding the problem account, as I said before by enabling each one and testing afterwards.

I’m sure, as you hinted, it could be just a server-side issue that needs to be addressed by them, (Or not), but if you’re in a jam I’d give Apple and/or your email provider a call to let them know.

Hey Markus_Maximus! (Cool name by the way)!

In your case, if Mail can open even for a little bit, I’d select, on the top menu, Window > Connection Doctor.....if the option to enable logging is checked.......I would un-check it........if it’s been on for a long time, I’d click on “Show Logs”, in this window press Command i, you’ll see the size of the folder on the top right.....if it’s using a whole lot of storage, you can delete all the contents to free it up again, and it won’t happen again if disabled. Otherwise, if you don’t have a Cox or Road Runner account, check out some previous replies, regarding the V10 folder and permissions. Cheers.

Same issues happened to me after Ventura 13.2 install. (MacBook Pro M1) I spent 6 hours on the phone with level 1 tech on two different days. The last one finally had me wipe my hard drive and reinstall as "new" with updates. Mail app work for several hours and then repeated the same issue. I have removed mail app many times now and tried all the "fixes". It still doesn't work. I had to install Outlook from Office 365 so I could function until there is a solution for this issue. I hope Apple is working on it now. I will be calling back in the next few days if they don't get this fixed.
