YouTube requires iOS 14 or higher. If you want to use the app you will have to buy a newer device. Alternatively, you could see if using a web browser would let you watch some things..
Your iPhone is too old to support iOS 13 or newer versions of iOS.

So, I figured out, I would just delete and then reinstall from the App Store.
This works just fine.
the popup about YouTube's version etc. VS iOS12.5.7 on iPhone6 has been around for months. Then, in January 2024. Things happened :)
It's solved now, though.
