I can't change my apple id and I'm canceling that email service what to do

I need to cancel an email service that is no longer associated with us personally and will no longer be able to use the account for email. It is an apple id for my husbands phone and also our subscriptions, media and purchases from apple. I have tried to update Apple Id to 3 different gmails that we use currently my phone my husbands and a gmail that is not associated with apple at all yet. Each time it says its not available or is associated with other apple items. ???? How can I get rid of this email address???? Where do I start updating first ? The cloud Itunes Apple TV Phones Ipads etc. etc. HELP

Here's how you change the email address you use for your Apple ID:


1. Go to https://appleid.apple.com and sign in.

2. In the Sign-In and Security section, choose Apple ID.

3. Enter the email address that you want to use as your Apple ID.

4. Choose Change Apple ID.

5. If you changed your Apple ID to a third-party email address, check your email for a verification code, then enter the code. Learn what to do if you didn't get the email. --> If you didn't receive your verification or reset email - Apple Support

6. If you use services like iCloud or Messages to share with friends and colleagues, sign in to those services with your updated Apple ID. --> What to do after you change your Apple ID or password - Apple Support

Apple has not documented when an email address can and cannot be re-used once used with the Apple system for another purpose such as a rescue address, but many people have reported issues when trying to re-use one. Make sure you try with one Apple has not seen. Many of us use gmail addresses with no issues.
