When using Pencil on my iPad Pro 2022 I opened the small Pencil keyboard, I have found no way to dismiss this other than shutting down my iPad and then starting it again. Closing google, or leaving the text box does not work. I have tried double tap on the top address bar, someone said use two fingers to expand the keyboard, does not work.
Any ideas?

Go into settings- Apple Pencil and switch off scribble. Then connect your pencil and try again. This fixes the annoying mini keyboard thing, but it also means you can’t use the scribble function (personally find it annoying so not an issue for me). This way you have large keyboard and pinch or drag down to make it small/big will always work. Suppose this is a semi solution, hope it helps. :)

if you read my post correctly you would have been aware A that I had tried the two finger expand, and B that I was NOT talking about the “floating keyboard” but I was talking about the PENCIL keyboard. Which is not the same as the normal keyboard.
One out of ten for at least trying to help.

How very odd, when one considers that this topic is searched with a regard to an answer on Google and is the subject of forums. One of the forums I check into arrived at the conclusion that this was a problem that Apple should fix, a bug in the software that was not covered by the iOS 16 update 4 days ago.
Before coming here I did try Apple support but they don’t offer email or chat in Europe, just a U.S. telephone number, how’s that for customer service!
I guess I will just have to live with a tablet that cost a couple of thousand making sure I don’t accidentally ever open the stupid Pencil keyboard again. Not the best solution for me but it suits Apple I guess.
To easily return the Floating Keyboard to the normal on-screen keyboard presentation, use the two-finger “zoom” gesture (i.e., the reverse of the two-finger “pinch”).
If the Split Keyboard is restored instead of the full on-screen keyboard, you can either use two fingers (one on each of the two half-keyboards) and swipe the two halves together - or touch-and-hold the “keyboard” key, then slide your finger to the Merge & Dock option and release.
