Ask to Buy with multiple parents as approvers

I am the family organizer, my husband is set up as a parent, but I still get all of the requests to download apps - how do I designate him as primary so he gets the requests? He is usually more available.

iPhone 13 Pro, iOS 16

Hello PeteSett,

Regardless if you change him to a Parent or not, the Ask to Buy requests always go to the Family Organizer. The only way to change this is to kick him out of the family group, then he makes his own family group, then you move the child to his group, then you disband your family, and then you join his.

Approve what kids buy with Ask to Buy - Apple Support

"With Ask to Buy, when kids want to buy or download a new item, they send a request to the family organizer. The family organizer can use their own device to approve or decline the request. For example, if a child wants to buy an app, the family organizer can see the app and decide whether to allow it.

If the family organizer approves the request and completes the purchase, the item automatically downloads to the child's device. If the family organizer declines the request, no purchase or download will take place. If a child redownloads a purchase, downloads a shared purchase, installs an update, or uses a redemption code, the family organizer won’t receive a request."

Thanks.

Hello PeteSett,

The Organizer will always receive the Ask to Buy requests, as well as other parents/guardians within the Family Sharing group. If they weren't receiving them, either the option to approve was not given or they may have another issue that should be addressed.

Keep in mind, these requests normally show up in Notification Center on the last used device(s) and should pend for a period of time until the request has been actioned by one of the responsible parties.

If you want your husband to also receive these notifications, then we'd revisit this page and make sure they are set up accordingly and have 'Ask to Buy' enabled for their account: Approve what kids buy with Ask to Buy - Apple Support This won't stop you from also receiving these requests, but your husband would then have the ability to action them. Which will dismiss the request on your end once addressed.

We hope this helps out!

Hi PeteSett,

If you go into the Settings on your iPhone, then select Family, then tap your name where you see Organizer it will take you to another screen where you can select Parent/Guardian, then switch off "Set as Parent/Guardian". This will stop you from getting Screen Time and Ask to Buy requests.

You can learn more about the types of Family Sharing roles here: Types of Family Sharing members.

Regards.
