Apple Music buffering with Carplay

I've recently started using Apple Music via Carplay. I'm driving a Cupra Born, which is basically a VW ID.3 with a different asesthetic. The software of the Born is also built on the same foundation as the ID.3 software.

When playing a song Apple Music will buffer for ages between songs or sometimes in the middle of a song. Sometimes the buffering will not stop until I skip to the next track.

There is no issue with Spotify or any other audio streaming software.

Has anyone come across this or fixed it the same model car or similar?

oh that’s make a lot of sense. Because if I turn off cellular connection in the cars infotainment. Then it will not buffering. But then I remove the possibility for the car infotainment to update maps and software.

So @Apple are you listening to this. There must be an update to tell Apple Music to receive connection from the phone, and not from the car with wireless CarPlay!

The40Watt,

Got it. Let's completely disconnect your phone from CarPlay and set it up again to see if that helps. To do so, go to Settings > General > CarPlay, tap your car, then tap Forget This Car.

Follow these steps to set up CarPlay again, if you need assistance: Use CarPlay with your iPhone

If Apple Music still continues to buffer, reach out to Apple for further assistance. You can follow this link to connect with them: Get Support

Best wishes.

I've read on another thread a tip that *seems* to be working in the Audi MMI. I've disabled the WiFi access (that can be a WiFi hotspot, but I have no use for it as my cell plan is unlimited) and so far after 10-15' I have not been buffering. I am not sure how this would translate in the VW/CUPRA infotainment, may be this page could help point the same in your cars : https://www.verizon.com/support/knowledge-base-228493/

Again this is a workaround, there is no way the Apple Music app is not using the same network setting as any other apps. Because Spotify, Soundcloud, Youtube Music, MixCloud, Apple Podcasts... they all work 100% well whatever the hotspot configuration...)

I believe I have fixed my CarPlay issue and here is some background and how I fixed it. My CarPlay problem started a few weeks ago when I updated my iOS on my iPhone 15. I have researched several times online and I never found this solution listed anywhere, even the Apple Tech whom I chatted with did not offer this solution, nor did he point me in the right direction to find it. Like most have done, I deleted the music streaming application on my iPhone and reinstalled it, I rebooted my iPhone far away from my vehicle, I disconnected CarPlay from the system by telling the iPhone to “Forget the Network”, I took off the auto-login and auto-join (it’s just a toggle switch for both) and connected my phone to the vehicle via Bluetooth which allowed me to stream my music with no issues. I had thought I had done everything possible, but I could not get over the feeling it is something in “Settings” that had gotten changed during the update. First here is where to go on an iPhone in “Settings” to find what needs to be done:

  1. Settings
  2. General
  3. CarPlay
  4. Click on the name of your vehicle - mine is “MyPathfinder”
  5. Customize
  6. Add program to “include” by clicking on it.

I also removed all programs listed that I will not use with Apple CarPlay. I am no expert and I do not claim to be an expert, I just want to share with you my experience and what I found that appears to have fixed the problem. Good luck!

Hey there, and welcome to Apple Support Communities The40Watt,

We've got a few troubleshooting steps you can try and then test again. First one is restarting your device, restarting while simple can help resolve most minor issues. Check out this link for more details:

Restart your iPhone

Also, have you verify that your device is up to date? We always recommend backing up before updating to make sure your data is safe. Check out these articles for more details:

  1. How to backup your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
  2. How to update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Finally, are you having the same issue with Wi-Fi and or cellular data? If you're using Wi-Fi now, try testing with a different Wi-Fi network. If you are using cellular, what is the cellular connection strength when this happens?

We thank you for your answers and assistance, they will help guide us to the next troubleshooting step.

Kindest regards!
