Apple Music buffering with Carplay

Any luck on resolving the issue?

Not sure why those "specialists" even trying with their useless advices.

I see posts with this issue as old as 2020 without any real solution.

Having up to date software both in the brand new VW and on my iphone. Restarting, repairing and everything I could possibly do, it is pretty frustrating that this issue haven't been properly addressed by Apple in almost 3 years.

I guess the only solution will be cancelling Apple Music and switching to Spotify. Such disappointment.

After 14 days of unsuccessful trials and errors I just gave up and cancelled apple music to use spotify that runs flawlessly...

Funny, after years of using all of the Apple devices in their ecosystem. This is the biggest disappointment... And I've had disappointments before.

Same buffering issues for me with a CUPRA Born, Apple Music and Apple CarPlay.

No issues at all with Spotify or TIDAL. I also tried streaming from home with Plexamp and Roon on the same route. No buffering at all.

It is only Apple Music having buffering issues. Lowering quality did not resolve the issue either.

Sigh.

If I disable it in my CUPRA Born (also part of the Volkswagen family), wireless CarPlay is unavailable. That's a pity.

But indeed, I also suspect it is the Apple Music app using the cellular connection of the car instead of the cellular connection of my iPhone.

But the problem is, if i do that, my wireless CarPlay doesn’t work.

the only I can do is use another music provider which I’m not willing to.

or disable the inbuilt esim in the cars entertainment, but that will result in no maps or system update, and the sound will make static crackling sounds when I speak in the phone over CarPlay, if the esim is activated then I can’t stream music from Apple Music, I can only play downloaded playlists, so it doesn’t have to “download” the song during the streaming.

that is a very bad situation.

before I had the carplay2air dongle from china in my old Seat Leon because I wanted the wireless CarPlay, and with that dongle there were no issues.

how can China company fix it when Apple and VAG doesn’t?

Yeah so it is fixable. I have my CUPRA Born set to Dutch and I still need to check which setting I adjusted. It had to do with using the phone or my car as a hotspot. It resolved the issue.

After your message, I ran some tests on the past few days and it did feel like it was fixed, but today I run a harder test skipping songs and playing tracks that I was sure weren't cached/on buffer, and… issue is still there, unfortunately.

The same problem with iPhone 12 mini and VW Touran 2022 y.

Eric, can you please in details describe what you have done?

I found that setting, but when I turned it off, the wireless CarPlay connection also dropped. Maybe it wasn't the same one? I couldn't find anything else related to a hotspot…

I don't think I'm connected or using the car's hotspot at all. But I'll look into it later, thanks.

Mine is still working. And I have today played a playlist which updating with the newest songs every friday - and that is songs which 100% not cached.

so it still works for me.
