Apple ID

My wife and I share the same iCloud account, sharing our e-mail etc. We each have an iPhone and an iPad, as well as two MacBook Airs (an M2 and an old Intel). And an old iMac. Lately we have been having trouble with our Apple ID, changing it upon request but failing to log on with the new ID. Is there a device limit? Or does Apple become suspicious when you create your own complicated password (instead of Safari-recommended strong password)? Thanks!

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 13.2

View and remove your devices that are associated with Apple ID purchases - Apple Support

says: "You can have ten devices (no more than five of them computers) associated with your Apple ID and iTunes at one time."

I am not completely clear what you mean when you say "trouble" and "changing". This document is archived but is still frequently linked in Apple's own documentation: What to do after you change your Apple ID or password - Apple Support
