Homekit Secure Video (w/ Aqara G3 Camera) Questions

Hi all

I've got a couple of Aqara G3 Cameras and have some HSV questions.

  1. There are times when Aqara app detects motion, as does the Apple Home app (I get notification) but then I see nothing in the Home app timeline.
  2. Then there are times where a clip is recorded in the timeline but it's abbreviated and doesn't include the person/pet/etc that triggered the recording.

These have even included an individual going through the door being monitoring by the camera!

The Home app in MacOS doesn't seem to let me jump around by clicking on the Day; I have to scroll back amongst all of the recordings. This isn't the case in the iOS/iPadOS apps. Am I doing something wrong?

Mac Studio, macOS 13.0

Hello Justin Surpless,

If the recorded event is available in the Aqara app but not in the Home app, you can try to remove the accessory and add it back:

"Add accessories with your iPhone or iPad

To add an accessory to the Home app, use your iPhone or iPad. You can't add accessories to the Home app on Mac.

The Home app screen on iOS showing the Add Accessory tile

  1. Open the Home app and tap Add  .
  2. Tap Add Accessory .
  3. Use the camera on your iPhone or iPad to scan the eight-digit HomeKit code, or QR code on the accessory or accessory documentation. If you have an iPhone 7 or later and see NFC-compatibility symbol on your accessory, hold your iPhone near the accessory to add it.
  4. When your accessory appears, tap it. If asked to Add Accessory to Network, tap Allow.
  5. Assign your accessory to a room and name it to help you identify it in the Home app and control it with Siri.
  6. Tap Continue, then tap Done."

More details can be found here: Add an accessory to the Home app

If the issue persist, can you provide a few more details? Does the video appear on any other devices? What is your macOS and iOS version? Also, has this worked properly previously?

Cheers!

Hello Justin Surpless,

For concerns specific to the video being recorded or motion detection, you'll want to speak to the manufacturers of your camera. Those functions are ultimately controlled by the camera and its software.

Regarding navigating Home on your Mac, we'd recommend reviewing the article Control Home accessories on Mac - Apple Support. For missing notifications, the article Get notifications for your smart home accessories - Apple Support will guide you on making sure your settings are set correctly.

Hi

Got a chance to remove the camera and re-add it today.

There definitely appear to be differences btw how the Aqara app and Home app are recording events.

For instance, both apps recorded an event around 13:48:23 today but then Home got another one at 13:48:42.

The Aqara app recorded an events 14:38, 14:41 and 14:42... Home got the 14:38, missed the 14:41 and then got the 14:42 event.

The Aqara app appears to be configured with a 'Detection Frequency' of 1-min which I imagine is a deadband to separate events. So that probably explains why it didn't record the Home one at 13:48:42.

What's the detection frequency of the Home app? Any thoughts on why Home would have been more sensitive than Aqara in one case but then less in another?
