Does anyone have issues with the Sandisk Extreme PRO 4TB with Venture 13.2?

So, there has been many reviews on Amazon and B&H reporting that the Sandisk Extreme PRO (E81) failing after mounting it for the first time.

Some are reporting that after formatting a brand new SSD, it would not mount again and there is no way to recover the SSD.

The failures were largely reported within this month and it seems to affect M1 Macs.

Planning to purchase the 4TB version but am wondering if this is a large scale problem for anyone else here.

I'm using the 2021 M1 Macbook Pro with Venture 13.2.

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 13.2

Pretty sure this is a firmware/software problem. I have the 4TB Extreme Pro. It worked fine with Monterey on my MBP M1, but after upgrading to Ventura, my Mac doesn't recognize that it's plugged in after the first time. If I plug the SSD into a Windows computer, it shows up without a problem. It doesn't seem to be a hardware issue. I'll probably revert to Monterey (again) until this gets worked out. Not sure if it's a SanDisk firmware issue or Apple MacOS issue, so who knows when/if it will be resolved. Very annoying though.

On my M1 MBP, a security setting requires some authentication before the OS will mount new drives. There is no notification/pop-up, so I had to dig into the security settings to find it. I think I ended up disabling that security feature. I don't have my MBP here to verify exactly where the setting is.

Hello, i've 2Tb Pro55AF and same issue..

I bought the disc 1 week ago and have lost video data on a large scale twice so far. (luckily I had it backed up!)

I don't know if the problem is with APPLE or SanDisk; But I want the solution of this problem as soon as possible. I live in Turkey. And I paid a lot of money to SanDisk. And I want to use it in my professional work as soon as possible!

Yeah, for me, it's anything using Thunderbolt/USB-C. I can use an adapter and mount drives via USB 3, but my USB-C/Thunderbolt ports don't mount anything. I'm not keen to downgrade to 13.1!!

Yes same problem on 2 of the 3 4 TB SSD SanDisk Extreme running M1 Ventura 13.1. Scared to plug in the third drive because It's almost full and I'm worried I'll lose everything.

Oh hello!

So yeah, I've been waiting to get this SSD drive but the steep discount followed by numerous reviews that this drive failed (not just Mac, but PC also) unreasonably fast after a few uses is indeed strange.

Are you able to return yours, though? Sorry it happened to you as well and thank you for replying!

Hey Mario, I think your issue is a bit different, as what I had (and others) was essentially that drives would not mount via the Thunderbolt ports at all, and did not appear in Disk Utility at all. I did not experience any data loss. I could mount the drives on other Macs running 13.1 with no problem. Good luck!

Contact SanDisk or Western Digital support for assistance. They should have more information about the issue assuming people tried reporting it to them.

FYI, Ventura is now on 13.2.1 so you are a few updates behind.

That is for using an external drive as a boot drive. It should recognize any drive attached without touching any security setting.
