Macbook Pro kernel panic during clean OSX install

Hello all... My 2017 MacBook Pro started repeatedly freezing and restarting with a kernel panic message. I tried all the troubleshooting steps I could find, then finally decided to do a clean install of OSX.

The only bootable drive I had was for High Sierra, so I decided to use that as an interim measure, but the installation won't complete, and the kernel panic message keeps appearing.

I used Apple Diagnostics to check hardware and it came back with code ADP000 (no issues found.)

Is there something else I can do on my own before taking it to someone for a diagnosis?

Thanks, in advance, for any and all responses. :)

You are welcome.

Having tried all of the above...

You Need to Get your Mac Serviced...

Contact Apple, and setup a Genius Bar Appointment or see an AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider) in your local area.

A. Contact Apple Support:

  • Contact Us - Choose Locations
  • Proceed from there as Necessary
  • Why the Wait: Phone calls are taking a bit to go through at the moment, due to lots of calls. With the Coronavirus Pandemic, many are at home at the moment, with much time on their hands to contact Apple. So, just stay on the line, and you will get through :)

And/Or...

B. Contact an AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider):

  1. Go Here: Find Locations - Apple Authorized Reseller
  2. Click: Service & Support
  3. Enter: your location information
  4. See: if there is an AASP nearby
  5. Contact: an AASP that shows up, and find out more about the services that they offer to fix the Mac.

C. Contact...

C. Your Local Retailer (With Certified Associates):

Take this to a retailer, see what services they offer. It would be a retailer that focusses n electronics.

Thank you for the followup reply.

Other Thoughts:

A. Restart your Router:

Unplug your router for 30 seconds, and then power it back on. Sometimes, there is a spike in electricity, and items become interrupted. Also, contact your Internet Provider, as they provide the service - perhaps there was utility work down the street from your location.

B. Reset your SMC and your NVRAM:

Sometimes changes are made to the system and then settings (i.e. for macOS) become manipulated, in the technically. So, reset both on your Mac. See if it now works as intended.

C. Verify your Drive: Repair your Disk in Disk Utility

Go Here: If your Mac Starts Up to an Apple Logo or Progress Bar - Apple Support

See if your Hard drive is Failing:

  1. Boot: into Recovery Mode (Hold Down: [command + R] upon boot)
  2. Select: Disk Utility
  3. Select: the Drive
  4. Click: First Aid button

Troubleshooting a Mac in a Boot Loop:

Is this consistent? If so, it seems you are in a Boot Loop. So, refer to the following...

I. Boot in Safe Mode:

In Safe ModeLogin Items do not run at login, certain preferences are set aside, and damaged system files are then reset. So, once booted in to Safe Mode, wait 30 seconds, and then boot up normally, attempting another update install. For instructions, go here: How to Use Safe Mode on your Mac - Apple Support

II. Re-Mount the Drive:

Boot into Recovery Mode (Intel or Silicon) . You need to click the “Mount’ button to proceed. So, select the drives, and then click "Mount" Try rebooting once more. If of no success, then click unmount button, and then the mount button. Try rebooting once more. It looks dulled-out. So, if you cannot click it, then click the First Aid button to fix this volume.

Three Thoughts on Installing:

A. Create and Use a Bootable Installer for macOS - Apple Support

Upgrading would be best. But just know that you would be restricted to 32-bit Apps, should you choose to use Mojave or Catalina. So, rather than a download Yosemite(The macOS that came with your Mac, do this: Create and Use a Bootable Installer for macOS High Sierra.

B. Use a Mac to Create the USB Bootable Installer:

Choose the installer for High Sierra if you are concerned with other applications not working. If you have no extra Mac, then ask a Friend, Family Member, Co-Worker, Peer, or Someone Else you Know, if you may use their Mac to create the USB Bootable Installer.  Point Being: You Don't have to use the Internet to Install this macOS, which, perhaps, is why you are losing this connection.

"Macbook Pro kernel panic during clean OSX install: Thank you for your response! But I erased the hard drive in order to do a clean install, so I'm unable to boot in safe mode."

"Unable to Boot Into Safe Mode":

Interesting. That doesn't sound accurate. Safe Mode is part of the BIOS --not the install. So, can you boot into Recovery Mode?
