How do I get night shift to work on my external monitor?

I have a monitor connected to my MacBook Pro. When I make the color warmer, it works for a second on the monitor, but then goes back to the color color. Can my setting to carry over to the monitor?

It looks like you viewed Use Night Shift on your Mac - Apple Support before posting. If you take a look at the requirements, you'll see that it requires the following Mac computers or displays listed here:

"System requirements for Night Shift

Night Shift requires macOS Sierra 10.12.4 or later and one of these Mac computers, using the built-in display or the displays listed:

MacBook Air introduced in 2012 or later
