Magsafe to Hub

Will the Apple MagSafe connector work to connect a powered hub? (I'm using an Anker powered hub with HDMI, USB and Thunderbolt ports.) It seems unlikely, but it would be nice if it did. The specifics are: could I take the MagSafe cord off the power adapter and plug the USB-C end into the power outlet on the hub? Would this only work for power and not to send HDMI data, etc.?

Hi CAP623,

For help with charging options for your MacBook Pro, view the information below found in the article here: Charge your MacBook Air or MacBook Pro

"Connect the MagSafe 3 cable

If your Mac has a MagSafe 3 port, you can use the USB-C to MagSafe 3 Cable to charge your Mac. Connect the USB-C power adapter to a power outlet, then connect the USB-C to MagSafe 3 Cable to the power adapter and to the MagSafe 3 port on your Mac. After you connect the charger, the indicator light glows green if your battery is fully charged. If your battery is charging or charging is on hold, the indicator light glows amber.

These Mac laptops can charge with MagSafe 3:

  • MacBook Air introduced in 2022
  • 14-inch MacBook Pro introduced in 2021 or later
  • 16-inch MacBook Pro introduced in 2021 or later"

You can also view helpful information in the section "Connect a USB-C charge cable or a display that provides power" from the same article.

View details for fast charging here: Fast charge your MacBook Air or MacBook Pro, and view details for checking the power in the section "Check power" here: Identify your Mac power adapter

Cheers.
